Review Introduction

The C195 comes from the EasyShare line of Kodak, which will allow users to upload taken photos almost instantly to their Facebook or videos to their YouTube accounts. This is just the tip of the iceberg though, as the C195 offers many useable functions for general users who would like a quick and easy snapshot and the enthusiast looking for a compact companion when their DSLR’s are too bulky for the photo job at hand. With its nifty features and very reasonable price, you might consider this compact as a nice Christmas gift.

Kodak EasyShare C195 Review

Shooting high quality photos is not a challenge with the C195 as it boasts a 5x optical zoom lens. The zoom function works well and photos do not look bad at all, especially when the camera has 14-megapixels. This means that whether you zoom and crop the photo, you’d still get a pretty decent image. However, doing too much will show some noise, which is normal. Surprisingly though, the level of noise of this camera is actually low, compared to other compacts in the market. The LCD screen at the back is a bright and big 3.0 screen, allowing you to compose your pictures nicely. Colors are crisp and vivid, although barrel distortion can sometimes occur.

Another feature of the C195 is the Smart Capture, which is really actually Auto scene mode, only smarter. This makes the job a lot easier for you and for kids who simply want to take snapshots all day. The camera also has video recording capabilities and this is where the drawbacks come in. Sadly video recording only supports VGA resolution, despite the camera’s huge optical lens and megapixel count. We wonder why Kodak didn’t allow HD recording since the camera already has an HD picture capture function. Kodak seemed to want to stick to photos instead of venturing into video entirely. Some photos also get a little blurred at times, despite the fact that it has blur reduction function. Others complained about the battery life, which is why most users use lithium instead of regular to compensate. Good thing it uses AA’s though, as you can buy them anywhere when the camera battery goes low.

Overall, you still get what you came for with the price. The Kodak EasyShare C195 is powerful enough, versatile enough and accessible enough for starters and kids, making this an excellent gift and travel companion. With its high megapixel count, 5x zoom lens and very useful sharing options, you will want to keep this compact with you for a long time.
